Job Summary

We are looking for a Principal Engineer to help define and build the future of data services products and capabilities primarily focused in helping making NetApp the most intelligent storage in Enterprise AI space with focus on Data personas including Data scientists, data analysts and data protection officers. The candidate is expected to work closely with core platform and engineering teams, product marketing, and most importantly our customers to define the vision and roadmap for the space, and to be excellent at driving planning and execution for these broad areas. 
The success of this role depends on ensuring that our data services related to enterprise AI bring more value to storage infrastructure while building and growing more subscription services. 

Essential Functions

  • Create and communicate technology development plans and a vision for the organization; stay informed on and monitor technology trends, directions, and uses throughout the industry.
  • Lead internal experimental and pilot projects to determine the applicability, functionality, and viability of applying new technologies to business issues.
  • Define new products and contributes to new architectures, and help establish strategic direction for on-prem and cloud storage systems and software
  • Provide performance perspective and trade-offs during the architecture and design phases of new products, technology and features
  • Provide analysis, develop working models, and drive creativity in the development of multi-dimensional cross-organizational technical problems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build the next generation of AI and Security related products that closely align with the company’s mission of helping customers store, protect and govern their data with NetApp for all workloads including GenAI workloads.
  • Lead the architecture implementation of the new Secured Data Intelligence platform. Lead product architecture, coordinate the interaction between architectural directions across the engineering organization to drive product optimization & innovation.
  • Collaborate with the product management team to drive a market-relevant roadmap for the Data Intelligent platform.
  • Act as a senior evangelist within the AI and security community, promoting the platform and driving adoption.
  • Engage directly with customers, understanding their requirements, and providing technical guidance and support.
  • Manage and coordinate teams across India and the US, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery of high-quality solutions.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to define and refine the platform's architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Provide strong leadership and guidance to the engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration to drive peer partnerships across teams, products and organizations in different GEOs.
  • Stay current with the latest trends and developments in the Security, AI, Storage and Compute ecosystem, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.

Job Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of AI/ML and security technologies with knowledge of storage management is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with large-scale systems architecture, feature definitions, and solution trade-offs for software-defined, cloud storage and compute architectures (GPUs, CPUs).
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills to be able to effectively communicate to all levels and stakeholders, as well as customers.
  • Recognized as technical expert within the engineering organization – should be able to demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in several related technical areas.
  • Able to design complex microservices based architectures as SaaS offerings.
  • Strong technical leadership skills – demonstrated ability to build and lead large and diverse engineering teams across geographies.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a demonstrated track record of delivering revenue-driven product launches.
  • Customer obsession, bias for action, ownership mentality, collaboration and communication.
  • Data-driven mindset, with proficiency in leveraging analytics and market insights to inform product decisions.
  • Experience in security, data space, specifically in data classification, data analysis, ML model creation space is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, AI, and production use cases and their requirements in terms of data management.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience is required; 15 years of experience is preferred
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience is required; master's or PhD is preferred.
  • Demonstrated successful completion of multiple, complex technical projects and teams

Compensation:
The target salary range for this position is 213,010 - 317,020 USD. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off (PTO), various Leave options, Performance-Based Incentives, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s), with all offerings subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies. Benefits may vary by country and region, and further details will be provided as part of the recruitment process.
