Sr. CPQ Process Architect
San Jose, California, United States; Morrisville, North Carolina, United StatesJob Summary
As a Senior Business Process Architect on the CPQ Platform team, you will serve as the senior strategic individual contributor and primary representative for CPQ across NetApp’s most critical enterprise initiatives. Reporting directly to the Sr. Director of CPQ Platform, you will operate as the team’s right hand — driving governance, shaping configuration strategy, and ensuring CPQ readiness across New Product Introductions (NPI), major platform transformations, and cross-functional programs.
This is not a people management role. It is a leadership role. You will lead through expertise, influence, and execution — representing CPQ at the table where strategic decisions are made and ensuring those decisions translate into scalable, supportable commercial operations. You must bring deep familiarity with how sellers actually sell, how deals are structured, and how configuration and quoting processes enable (or block) revenue.
Strong business acumen, CPQ domain expertise, AI fluency, and a storage industry background are essential. You will operate at the intersection of product, sales, operations, and technology — driving outcomes across PSRR, PRC, and enterprise governance processes in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
Job Responsibilities
• Serve as the CPQ platform’s senior strategic representative on major cross-functional initiatives including NPI launches, business model transitions, and commercial operations programs
• Lead CPQ readiness assessments for PSRR and PRC gates — identifying configuration risks, launch blockers, process gaps, and cross-functional dependencies before they become downstream problems
• Drive configuration governance across the product lifecycle — from initial product definition through quoting, ordering, fulfillment, and post-sale support
• Translate complex product and commercial strategies into actionable CPQ requirements, rules, and process designs that sellers can execute against
• Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Sales Operations, IT, Support, and Services to ensure end-to-end operational readiness for new offerings and business model changes
• Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for CPQ process automation, intelligent configuration, and decision support
• Conduct analysis of seller workflows, deal structures, and quoting patterns to identify friction points and drive configuration improvements that accelerate sales velocity
• Define and drive CPQ-related business requirements, solution designs, and implementation roadmaps in alignment with enterprise architecture
• Develop and present executive-level recommendations, risk assessments, and governance proposals to stakeholders from Staff to Vice President level
• Establish and maintain CPQ governance frameworks, standards, and decision criteria that scale across product lines and business models
• Survey and analyze industry practices, competitive CPQ approaches, and emerging commercial models for consideration in NetApp’s configuration strategy
• Provide mentorship and thought leadership to Business Process Analysts and cross-functional partners on CPQ best practices, governance principles, and configuration strategy
• Develop metrics and dashboards that provide visibility into CPQ operational performance, NPI readiness, and governance compliance
Job Requirements
• Deep, hands-on expertise in CPQ platforms, configuration logic, pricing models, and quoting/ordering processes — not theoretical, practical
• Intimate understanding of how enterprise sellers sell — deal structures, quoting workflows, channel dynamics, discount frameworks, and the configuration decisions that impact win rates
• Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools and platforms (e.g., AI-assisted analysis, automation, generative AI for process optimization) — must be a practitioner, not just aware
• Strong subject matter expertise in storage, data infrastructure, or adjacent enterprise technology markets
• Proven ability to lead without authority — influencing decisions, driving alignment, and holding cross-functional teams accountable through expertise and credibility
• Experience with NPI processes, stage-gate governance, and commercial launch readiness
• Excellent facilitation, communication, and presentation skills — ability to command a room from working sessions to executive reviews
• Effective cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Product Management, Sales, Operations, Finance, Support, and Services
• Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and applying them to business process challenges
• Creative, pragmatic approach to problem solving — biased toward action and outcomes over process theater
• Ability to manage multiple high-priority, concurrent initiatives with minimal supervision
• Tasks are largely unstructured, strategically significant, and have wide-reaching implications across commercial operations, product launch, and seller experience
• This individual will apply broad CPQ expertise and unique subject matter knowledge to solve problems that are complex, ambiguous, and high-stakes given time, budget, and resource constraints
• Demonstrates leadership and vision in determining and driving high-impact, cross-functional decisions — particularly at governance gates and strategic inflection points
• Operates as the primary CPQ voice in rooms where product, sales, and technology strategy converge
Interaction:
• Must work effectively with Staff to Senior Vice President level employees within the function, across functions, and with external partners and vendors
• Limited supervision is provided — this individual operates, drives results, and sets priorities independently as a trusted extension of the CPQ Platform leadership
• The ideal candidate is a proactive contributor, subject matter expert, and strategic thought partner — not someone who waits for direction
• Success requires demonstrating favorable results through leadership and influencing multiple individuals, teams, and executive stakeholders
• Acts as mentor, facilitator, and the go-to authority on CPQ governance and configuration strategy
Education
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in business process architecture, CPQ, commercial operations, or related disciplines is required
• A Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree is required, or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated track record of leading complex, cross-functional programs focused on CPQ, configuration governance, and/or commercial operations in enterprise technology
• Storage, data infrastructure, or enterprise hardware/software industry experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated experience applying AI and automation tools to business process optimization

Currently, when addressing certain hiring needs, NetApp uses the following tools:

Additionally, the tool may be used to help review and/or rank internal employees seeking promotion or other internal mobility. Findem may also be used to assist with candidate matching, AI-assisted screening, and recruitment communications.
Our talent acquisition team or our recruiters will ultimately select the candidates for further consideration, following human review of any automated evaluation results and associated underlying documentation (or lack thereof) submitted with the candidates’ application.
Candidates may request an alternative selection process which will not be subject to the Eightfold matching tool or to any electronic automated employment evaluation by contacting NetApp at careers@netapp.com.
